Meet the Guardians at the Heart of Fuzz & Buzz Farms

  • The Great Pyrenees Livestock Guard Dog, Josefina, poses with a smile on her face in the snow with a feed sled while on a short break from protecting her Nubian goat friends from Coyotes and other predators on the homestead.

    Josefina

Josefina is a Great Pyrenees Livestock Guard Dog. She spends her days patrolling the pastures and protecting her Nubian goat friends while hanging out with her best friend Socks (see below). Jo is a very conscientious protector who always ensures that her charges are well protected from hawks, loose dogs, coyotes, and other potentially dangerous farm visitors. She spends her time lounging in the sun (or shade) until her interference is needed and loves to hang out with her people when they come for a visit.

  • A black quarter horse mare stands peacefully near some green juniper trees in a pasture in New Mexico that she shares with her Livestock Guard Dog and Nubian goat friends.

    Socks

Socks is a very patient and very old rescue Quarter Horse mare. She is not a huge fan of people due to her past, but she is extremely patient with her dog and goat friends. She checks on her new puppy friend, Kenai, throughout the day and grazes with her Nubian goat friends in the middle of the pasture so that they feel more secure. Her favorite buddy is Josefina as they were the first two outdoor residents on the farm and have spent all of Jo’s life together. Socks was an accidental addition to the family after she was encountered in a bad situation. After more than a decade together, Socks tolerates her people friends well enough and lives her life as a retired pasture pet.

  • Kenai, a fluffy, white Great Pyrenees puppy, stands in a pasture on the homestead before going to great his Nubian goat charges.

    Kenai

Kenai, another Great Pyrenees Livestock Guard Dog, is a new addition to the farm and is currently in training. He spends the morning hanging out with Jo and then lounges in his enclosed pen in the afternoons while the goats are out. Over the next couple of years, Kenai will be spending his time learning how to be calm and polite around his charges until he is able to be trusted with his new friends full time.
